PTA Update:

  • Back to School Nightis on Wednesday, September 5 at 6:30 in the SPMS Auditorium. You will follow your child's schedule from classroom to classroom and meet their teachers and learn about all the wonderful things they have planned that need vital Wish Night support.

  • Please join fellow parents in the school courtyard at6:00 p.m. for a Meet and Greet with other parents and teachers before Back to School Night begins.  The WEB students will also be raising funds for their program through sales of refreshments, baked goods and pizza - so don't worry if you don't have time to grab a bite to eat at home first!

  • While you are out shopping at Vons or Pavilions between now and September 11th, don't forget to purchase items highlighted with a yellow school bus to ensure our school gets 10% Back to School Savings of your purchases.  This donation is automatic if your card is registered with the Escrip program. If your card is not registered, please save the highlighted receipts and bring them to the SPMS office.

From the Parent Institute:

Create Screen Time Habits For The School Year
If your child is like many middle schoolers, her relaxation time probably includes TV, surfing the Internet, playing video games and texting her friends.
This isn't harmful in itself. But too much can be, especially when your child should be focusing on schoolwork. A good goal is to confine most screen time to the weekends and school holidays.
During the school week:

  • No screen time during homework time. Physically take electronics away during homework time. If they are nearby, the temptation is just too great.
  • Your child deserves study breaks, but she should spend them on exercise, spending time with family or having a snack.

  • Take your child's phone at bedtime. Many kids send and receive texts late at night.

  • Turn off the TV and computer 30 minutes before bedtime. Your middle schooler needs time to unwind.
