8th Grade Panoramic Picture - Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at 12:30 pm in the Quad - Dress Code
PICTURES ARE IN.  You are your students can pick them up in the office.  We will not be delivering them to the classrooms.  Please pick-up ASAP (this is also in the Morning Daily Announcements.
 
Promotion Requirement Letters - mailed out in February due March, with signatures from Parent/Guardian & Student
 
Winter Formal Dance - Saturday, February 24, 2018, at 6 pm - 9 pm at Oneonta Church - Dress Code and Permission Slip
 
Spirit Wear - Last Day to receive orders - Tuesday, April 24.
 
Speach Writing Contest - 
The Speech Writing Contest will be held in the library computer lab at 2:50pm on Thursday, May 17th Students will have 45 minutes to write a rough draft of a speech. The top two rough drafts will be selected. The 8th grade English teachers will then work with those two students on revising and finalizing their speeches to present at Promotion ceremony.

Lip Sync Contest - 
       Information Mtg - Mon. May 15 at Lunch in room 203, Information and contracts will be passed out.  Audition date will be given.
       Contracts are DUE - Fri. May 18 room 203
 
Running for Freshman Class Officer for the High School - 
      You must attend an informational meeting on Fri. May 18 at lunch in Room 216.  Arrive on time and bring your lunch.
       Officer Candidate speeches on 5/29/18 during Homeroom.

Auditions to Perform at Promotion - 
      Groups and Individuals can Sign-up in the Band room by Wed. May 23. 
      Auditions will be held in the Band room after school from 3:00pm to 4:00pm on Fri. May 25.
 
Meeting for SPHS Competitive Sports - 
       Informational meeting on Thu. May 24 immediately after school in the SPMS Cafeteria.  The meeting will cover information regarding summer practices, tryouts, and other requirements.  Come and speak with current coaches and high school athletes.   Go Tigers! (see details below)
 
Promotion Dance - Saturday, June 2, 2018 at the High School Cafeteria from 6pm to 9pm  (details below)
 
Promotion - Monday, June 4 - 5:30pm to 7:30pm (gates will not open until 5pm, details below)
 
8th Grade Luncheon & Yearbook signing - Tuesday, June 5 at 8:30am onward

PROMOTION REQUIREMENTS

 

In order to participate in the promotion ceremony and other activities, including, but not limited to, 8th grade dances, promotion practice, the 8th grade breakfast/lunch, and any last day activities provided for 8th graders:

 

  1. A student must meet appropriate curriculum content standards and be recommended for promotion to 9th grade at the completion of 8th grade, or they will not participate in promotion exercises.
  2. A student may not participate in promotion activities if he or she has more than four (4) "F" marks in the 8th grade, with no more than one (1) earned in the 4th quarter.
  3. A student may not participate in promotion activities if he or she has more than four (4) Unsatisfactory (U) ratings for Citizenship, with no more than one (1) earned in the 4th quarter.
  4. In order to participate in promotion activities, a student may not have more than one (1) suspension, either in-house or at home as assigned by an administrator, with none in the 4th quarter.
  5. Any student who has been placed on a SART (Student Attendance Review Team) contract, who then breaks that contract, may not participate in promotion activities.

Hey there 8th graders! Can you believe that only a few short months stand between us and high school? Time flies! So let’s make these last few months at SPMS count!
 
Tuesday, February 13 is the 8th grade Panoramic Picture. The 8th graders have a long tradition here at SPMS to make the panoramic picture extra special by dressing fancy for the photo.  All students need to dress in accordance with the school dress code. 
 
8th grade boys:
Please wear a collared shirt with a tie and slacks, khakis, or dress pants.
No T-shirts or jeans.
 
8th grade girls:
Please wear a nice blouse or collared shirt with khakis, dress pants, or a skirt.
Dresses are another option.
No T-shirts or jeans.
 

So guys grab a tie and show some swagger. Girls, a pretty blouse or cute dress is sure to make a statement.  8th graders, let’s all dress to impress and show the school that the class of 2018 has got real style!

Dear Families of SPMS Eighth Graders:

Attached, you will find your special invitation to Eighth Grade Night, Parts I and II, to be held on January 24th and 

February 21st at South Pasadena High School.  These are very important nights for parents/guardians and eighth

graders to come find out about their high school years, our programs and opportunities, and to get ready to dream

big about what the future holds.

There is also a "fridge-friendly" reminder attached for you to post so you'll remember to add these essential events

into your calendars

I very much look forward to greeting all of you on January 24, 2018, in our auditorium.  There will be a campus tour,

as well, so please dress comfortably for a bit of walking.

8th Grade Washington DC Trip Students Meetings are every Wed. at 11:55 am in Ms. Chen's Room 212.
 
Last Parent Info Meeting, before the trip is Wed. Mar. 21,  6pm in Rm 215 (student building, 2nd floor, facing Oak St.).
 
DC Trip is during Spring Break:
Students will leave Sat., March 31 (early morning) and return Thurs., April 5 (early morning).
