While students recuperated the day after Halloween with some time away from school, SPUSD secondary teachers honed their skills in the areas of trauma-informed care and LGBTQIA+ training.
Pasadena’s Young & Healthy walked teachers through understanding how adverse childhood experiences may affect students’ abilities to learn effectively. The training provided information about how teachers may support students socially and emotionally.
In addition, South Pasadena Unified Train Your Brain social workers coordinated a training by the Los Angeles LGBT Center about supporting LGBTQIA+ students to ensure that school is an inclusive, safe, and affirming space for all. These conversations provide a starting point for ensuring LGBTQIA+ students are well-supported at both the middle school and high school levels.
