SPMS Students Tackle Cardboard Arcade Design Challenge
The Cardboard Arcade Design Challenge is a Capstone Project for students in the 7th grade STEAM Design & Modeling class at South Pasadena Middle School. Students apply skills they have developed throughout the semester to design a project, model in TinkerCAD, construct a prototype, create a rules poster, and test the creations by playing their games.
The class follows the Project Lead the Way curriculum with hands-on, real-world activities, projects, and problems and helps students understand how the knowledge and skills they develop in the classroom may be applied in everyday life. Students work through all the stages of the user-centered design process developed by the d.school Stanford School of Design using skills like measurement, 3D modeling, 3D printing, and graphic design.
Inspired by the 2012 viral video Caine’s Arcade, the Cardboard Arcade Design Challenge is in its fifth year at SPMS. Go, Tiger Cubs!
