On Tuesday, August 11, 2026, all staff within the South Pasadena Unified School District (SPUSD) gathered in Anderson Auditorium to kick off the 2026-2027 school year.

The keynote speaker, Terry Madigan, President of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses and an SPHS alumnus, shared a welcome message that included advice he would give to his 17-year-old self. Madigan’s heartwarming speech emphasized the importance of inclusiveness and belonging and the impact educators have on the lives of students.

This year’s event also included remarks from Superintendent Angela Elizondo Baxter and SPUSD Board President Michele Kipke, and new employee introductions by Principals Emily Blaney, Noelle Fong, Julia Johnson, Cheryl Busick, John Eldred, and Executive Director of Student Support Services Nancy Goldstein.

SPUSD looks forward to welcoming students back to school on August 12, 2026.
